Terms of Service
Last updated: March 31, 2026
These Terms of Service (these “Terms”) govern your access to and use of Hansel's desktop app, website, account, billing, support, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing or using the Services, or by continuing to access or use the Services after we notify you of an update to these Terms, you confirm that you have read, understand, and agree to be bound by these Terms.
These Terms include an arbitration agreement, jury trial waiver, and class action waiver in the Governing Law and Dispute Resolution section below.
Eligibility and Acceptance
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use Hansel. If you use Hansel on behalf of a company or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
By downloading, accessing, or using Hansel, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Hansel.
Accounts and Security
You may need an account to access some website, billing, or subscription features. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must provide accurate information and promptly update it if it changes. We may suspend or terminate accounts that are fraudulent, abusive, or materially inaccurate.
License to Use Hansel
Subject to these Terms, Ahoy Labs grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download, install, and use Hansel for your internal personal or business purposes.
Hansel and all related software, code, interfaces, branding, and documentation remain the property of Ahoy Labs and its licensors.
Acceptable Use Restrictions
You may not, and may not permit others to:
- Use Hansel in violation of law, privacy rights, or contractual obligations.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code from Hansel except where applicable law expressly permits it.
- Interfere with or disrupt Hansel, its update systems, authentication flows, billing, or security features.
- Use Hansel to infringe, misappropriate, or violate the rights of Ahoy Labs or third parties.
- Use Hansel to develop or improve a competing product using non-public features, documentation, or access not generally made available.
User Data and Ownership
As between you and Ahoy Labs, you retain ownership of the recordings, text, settings, prompts, exports, and other content you submit to or generate through Hansel ("User Data").
You grant Ahoy Labs the limited rights necessary to host, process, transmit, analyze, and otherwise use User Data to provide and improve Hansel in accordance with these Terms and our Privacy Policy, including de-identified or anonymized uses where permitted.
You are responsible for having all rights, permissions, and consents necessary for your collection and use of User Data through Hansel.
Permissions and User Responsibilities
Hansel relies on macOS permissions and local configuration choices to provide features such as microphone capture, screen recording, accessibility-based window tracking, and browser automation.
You are responsible for understanding and lawfully using those features, including complying with workplace rules, notice or consent requirements, confidentiality duties, and any applicable wiretap, surveillance, employment, or privacy laws.
AI Features and Third-Party Services
Hansel includes AI-assisted features that may rely on AI systems operated by Ahoy Labs and/or third-party AI service providers. Those features may depend on selected context, transcript snippets, or other feature-related inputs being processed by those systems or providers.
AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or not suitable for your intended use. You are responsible for reviewing any AI-generated output before relying on it. Third-party provider outages, policy changes, or model changes may affect Hansel's functionality.
Beta and Free Features
Hansel is currently offered in beta, and some features may be marked alpha, beta, preview, early access, experimental, or free. Beta features may be incomplete, change materially, or be discontinued at any time without notice.
We do not promise that any beta or free feature will remain available, unchanged, or free forever.
Subscriptions, Billing, Renewal, and Cancellation
Some Hansel features may require a paid subscription. Paid services may be sold through Hansel's website and managed through third-party billing providers such as Polar.
If you subscribe to a paid plan, you authorize us and our billing providers to charge the applicable fees, taxes, and recurring subscription charges using your selected payment method until you cancel. Unless otherwise stated at the time of purchase, subscriptions automatically renew for successive billing periods.
You can manage or cancel your subscription through your account portal. Changes take effect at the end of the then-current billing period unless required otherwise by law. We may change prices or billing terms in the future by giving advance notice as required by applicable law.
Intellectual Property and Feedback
Hansel, including its software, design, text, graphics, logos, trademarks, and documentation, is protected by intellectual property laws.
If you provide suggestions, ideas, or feedback about Hansel, you grant Ahoy Labs a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use and exploit that feedback without restriction or obligation to you.
Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Hansel if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created security or legal risk, failed to pay amounts due, or used Hansel in a way that could harm Ahoy Labs, other users, or third parties.
You may stop using Hansel at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnity, and dispute resolution provisions.
Disclaimers
Hansel is provided "as is" and "as available" to the maximum extent permitted by law. Ahoy Labs disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, quiet enjoyment, and that Hansel will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
We do not warrant that Hansel will preserve all locally stored data, prevent all data loss, or produce accurate AI outputs.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ahoy Labs and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, suppliers, and licensors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, goodwill, data, or business opportunities.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ahoy Labs' aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Hansel or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid to Ahoy Labs for Hansel in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or (b) $100.
Indemnity
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Ahoy Labs and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, suppliers, and licensors from and against claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, costs, and expenses arising out of or relating to your use of Hansel, your User Data, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, excluding its conflict of laws rules.
Before starting arbitration, each party agrees to try to resolve the dispute informally by sending written notice describing the claim and requested relief. If the dispute is not resolved within 30 days after notice, either party may start binding arbitration.
Except for disputes that qualify for small claims court or requests for injunctive or equitable relief relating to intellectual property or misuse of the service, all disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or Hansel will be finally resolved by binding arbitration in Delaware before a single arbitrator under the JAMS Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures, in English.
Class action waiver. You and Ahoy Labs agree to bring claims only in your or its individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, consolidated, representative, or private attorney general proceeding.
Opt-out right. You may opt out of this arbitration provision by sending written notice within 30 days of first accepting these Terms to privacy@hansel.so with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out." Your notice must include your name, the email address associated with your account, and a clear statement that you want to opt out of arbitration.
Changes to Hansel and These Terms
We may modify Hansel or these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms and update the effective date above. If applicable law requires additional notice, we will provide it.
By continuing to use Hansel after the updated Terms take effect, you agree to the revised Terms.
